About us
Making genuine friends as an adult is surprisingly hard. Life fills up fast — work, family, responsibilities — and the energy left over for socializing rarely stretches far enough. And when it does, most activities leave you with people you enjoy seeing at the thing, but never quite beyond it.
I think there's a better way. I'm building a small, intentional group of people who want actual connection — and using D&D as the vehicle to get there.
If socializing feels like a performance with no script and no clear purpose, D&D can help with that in two ways. First, it's genuinely collaborative — there's no competition for airtime, no pressure to perform or be 'on' for anyone. Everyone gets space to engage on their own terms. Second, the story provides the structure. Creativity happens inside a framework, which means the conversation has somewhere to go.
A note on the DM situation: I come with player experience but this is my first time running a game. I won't pretend otherwise. What I can tell you is that I'm approaching it deliberately — I'll be using AI tools to support the world-building and keep the story on track, so the experience stays rich even while I'm finding my feet.
For the same reason, I'm not just opening the doors and hoping for the best. I'll be using a brief interest survey to help find people whose values and expectations are a good fit — because the right group of people matters more than any rulebook.
Time and Location: TBD, likely a weeknight in Durham or Raleigh. Starting at a public venue, but open to member hosting once everyone is comfortable.
The Flow: We'll begin with a 30-minute social on-ramp, then roll into gameplay. To keep things manageable for everyone, we'll use a few simple protocols to keep things clear and make sure everyone has a voice.
You've unrolled the scroll this far...
If you appreciate clever playfulness, enjoy a good pun (the bad ones even more!), and want to spend time with people who take "being a decent human" seriously, I'd love to hear from you. Whether you're a veteran player or brand new, all are welcome — as long as you're inclusive and supportive. To that end, murder hobos and chaos goblins need not apply!
To help find a group where the "party alchemy" isn't a critical fail, please take a few moments to fill out the brief interest survey when you receive it.
