Details
# Etruscan Coast Trek (Lazio)
Discover one of Lazio’s most captivating coastal landscapes on this full-day guided trek along the Etruscan Coast. Starting from the medieval Castello di Santa Severa, you’ll journey through ancient ruins, volcanic black sand beaches, and pristine coastal wetlands that shelter rare Mediterranean wildlife.
Duration: Approximately 6 hours + lunch break
Difficulty: Easy – suitable for those in good physical fitness
What Makes This Experience Special
Walk through the archaeological site of Pyrgi, where Etruscan civilization once flourished, with exclusive access arranged for your passage. Continue along the dramatic “black sands beach” to reach Macchiatonda Regional Nature Reserve, one of central Italy’s most important coastal ecosystems. Navigate through coastal dunes, Mediterranean scrubland, and hidden groves to discover the reserve’s crown jewel: rare backdune wetlands teeming with birdlife. These threatened habitats offer exceptional wildlife observation opportunities, particularly for waterfowl and migratory species.
Along the way we’ll pass by at Azienda Agricola Roncella, where a traditional tasting buffet (optional, 10€) showcases authentic regional flavors and local agricultural traditions. From there, we’ll return to the starting point at the train station.
