Open Garden: Get A Yield

This landscape displays abundant berries; see easy plants for food and medicine at this .44 acre site. Get to know the plants and their requirements by observing them in a naturalized setting. This is not row cropping or an orchard, it is a personalized garden that roams over the whole yard. Your host will answer questions regarding selection, siting and maintenance. Stroll the landscape, talk with other gardeners and learn how to intensively cultivate perennials and annuals.

Now at the 5 year mark, the small bare root plants that were installed are thriving. Culinary and medicinal herbs are established along with raspberries, elderberries, strawberries, blueberries, aronia, juneberry, currants,
hazelnut, plum, cherry, peach, grapes. and more. An elevated bed area is reserved for annual planting and newly cultivated beds are still emerging. There is still much to add! This visit will help you understand how a garden can adapt and change over time.
