August 2023 ROS By-The-Bay

ROS By-The-Bay is the Bay Area's only meetup exclusively for Robot Operating System (ROS). This month we'll have three speakers, a ROS community update, lightning talks, and plenty of time to chat with your fellow developers. Whether your just starting to learn about robotics, or a seasoned industry veteran, ROS By-The-Bay is a great event for connecting with other local roboticists.

This month's speaker will include:

• Katherine Scott -- The ROS Developer Advocate at Intrinsic will give her regular community update, including a full report on Automatica, ROSCon France, and ROS Industrial Conference EU.
• Eric Chen -- from the Golberg lab at University of California Berkeley will discuss FogROS2. FogROS 2 is an open source cloud robotics platform for connecting robot systems across different physical locations, networks, and Data Distribution Services (DDS). With globally unique and location-independent identifiers, FogROS2-SGC securely and efficiently routes data between robotics components around the globe that may dynamically move between different networks. The platform is agnostic to the ROS 2 distribution and configuration and compatible with non-ROS 2 software, and it seamlessly extends existing ROS 2 applications without any code modification.
• ⚡ Lightning Talks! ⚡ For this ROS By-The-Bay we're going to open up the event to the broader ROS community with a round of lightning talks. Do you have an announcement you would like to make? Looking to hire ROS developers? Have a cool robot you want to show off? Sign up for a lightning talk. Lightning talks can be a maximum of four minutes, and optimally less than that! Additional Details

• We'll provide pizza and refreshments!
• We plan to have at least two hours for networking.
• Talks start promptly at 7pm, please arrive early if you would like to enjoy a slice of pizza.
• This event will be hosted at the Intrinsic offices in Mountain View. The location is easily accessible by car, bus, and CalTrain (San Antonio Stop).
• Event attendees must comply with the ROS Code of Conduct.
