ROS By-The-Bay August Meetup: InOrbit, ROS on Bazel, & Johnny 5 is live
Details
ROS By-The-Bay is the Bay Area's only meetup exclusively for Robot Operating System (ROS) users!
For our August meetup, we have three fantastic speakers at an amazing new location: the InOrbit Robot Space at 285 Castro St in downtown Mountain View, home to many robotics community events (and a robot petting zoo). It is an easy walk from Caltrain and VTA, with parking available on side streets.
Our speakers for August will be:
- Florian Pestoni, co-founder of InOrbit.AI, will present OpenRobOps (ORO), the soon-to-be-released open-source fleet manager that provides the operations layer between ROS and Open-RMF, including secure connectivity, real-time observability, and robot health for entire fleets. He will also cover the just-approved ISO 21423 interoperability standard, for which ORO will serve as a reference implementation, and share real-world orchestration lessons from the Automate robot orchestration demo.
- Andrew Symington, a senior software engineer at Intrinsic and ROS contributor, will present his work on a new ROS Bazel build system and a ROS Central Registry (RCR) for ROS Bazel modules. Traditionally, Bazel has been used in large monorepos, but with the introduction of Bazel modules, it has become considerably easier to use Bazel in smaller, more distributed projects like ROS. This new ROS Central Registry makes Bazel an appealing supplementary build system for ROS with a number of compelling features.
- Ramon Yvarra is a freelance user experience and game developer, and a member of the Input-Inc. team. Input-Inc. is an international team of designers, builders, and hobbyists with a shared mission: to maintain the most comprehensive and screen-accurate CAD repository available for the main character of the 1980s films 'Short Circuit' and 'Short Circuit 2'. They call this platform OpenSAINT, an open-source platform designed using industry-grade CAD software that runs ROS 2 under the hood.
