Ede to Arnhem hike + Airborne Memorial Show 20-9-2025.
This is a Gathering point is Ede-Wageningen train station. We will leave at 08:30 sharp to ensure that we reach the event on-time (10:00). Alternatively, for those who wish to sleep in a bit longer, you can meet us at the event and walk from the Ginkelse Heide. This is not a round trip so we will not end back at the same train station (Arnhem Centraal). For those who are interested, we will go into the city centre afterwards to have a post-hike drink at the Irish Pub.
Admission fee: 1,- Euro cash on the day of the walk or via Tikkie. Pints are also considered legal tender in this group.
On this walk we will see the following things:
- Ginkelse Heide
- Parachuting show + memorial
- Wolfheze and Oosterbeek, two important towns during Operation Market Garden
- Potential to see the John Frost Bridge (a rebuilt replica of the bridge fought over by British Paratroopers and German forces during WW2).
This walk is about 19 km with a nice mix of paved road, sand and dirt track. We will stop mid-way for lunch.
In case of extreme bad weather, no interest or any other reason the walk can be cancelled.
Who should sign up:
- Anyone who is reasonably fit and can hike at a pace of 5-6 km an hour.
What to bring:
- Decent shoes: with good gripping/traction soles
- Plenty of water is essential
- Some snacks
- Hat - for sunny weather
- Raincoat
If you feel like you will be late then please inform in advance. We will not wait for latecomers who have not given prior notice and only when reasonable.
