Today's tour consists of a bike trip through the South East of Rotterdam: specifically we'll explore the districts Feijenoord en IJsselmonde.

🚲 WHAT TO EXPECT

This is a varied trip that consists of both seeing the city as well as seeing some green & blue nature. Total cycling distance is 12km, total walking distance is 2.5km. The duration of the tour is approximately 2.5 hours.

We'll start from Blaak area and go over the Willemsbrug (the red bridge) where you have a beautiful sight on the river. On the route we'll highlight some nice city spots while we head towards the beautiful Eiland van Brienenoord, one of the nicest pieces of nature in Rotterdam. There we step off our bikes and walk over the island to feel the peace and quieteness just of this tidal park. After that, we bike back to Blaak station, where we started.

The host knows this area well and likes to share some of his highlights of this nice area.

🚲 PRICE

The price of this tour is 6 euros. This includes a drink during the tour. Please pay in advance using this payment link. We will ask for it at the start of the tour.

🚲 TIME+LOCATION

We'll start on Saturday at 14:45. The start location is at the Wezenbrug (a bridge), next to Blaak station and the Markthal. You might recognise our faces. Below is a rough planning:

* Gathering 14:45 @ Wezenbrug, Rotterdam
We leave short after meet & greet

* 14:45 - 16:00 Biking from Wezenbrug through Feijenoord district to Eiland van Brienenoord (6km including info during the tour)
* 16:00 - 17:00 A walk over the Eiland van Brienenoord (2.5km)
* 17:00 - 18:00 Biking back to the start / Blaak (6km)

🚲 WHAT TO BRING

1. You need a bike. If you have a bike, bring your bike. If you don't have a bike, you can rent one anywhere you like. Rent an OV bike for example for only 4,15 euros. Or rent a "3 speed" Donkey Republic for 10 euros.

2. To be comfortable, you could take some small snack with you (i.e. muesli bar) and a water bottle for example

🚲 WHAT IF IT RAINS?

If it rains a little, we go. Make sure you adjust your clothing, i.e. take a rain coat and/or an umbrella with you.

If it rains heavily, the tour will be cancelled. We will inform you the evening before the tour.

Feijenoord district
Feijenoord is de eerste uitbreidingswijk van Rotterdam ten zuiden van de Nieuwe Maas. De wijk werd begrensd door de Spoorweghaven in het westen en de Koningshaven en de Nieuwe Maas in het noorden en oosten.
Feijenoord is onbekend bij toeristen, en toch heeft het diverse pareltjes. Het heeft bijvoorbeeld het grootste indoor skatepark van Nederland, een BMX-park, een 'house of E-sports', en vele antieke gebouwen. De vele havens in het gebied maken deel uit van de sfeer.

Eiland van Brienenoord
Het Eiland van Brienenoord is een bijzonder eiland vol ontdekkingen met bos, grasvlakten, open water en poelen. Het eiland is onderdeel van het Rondje Stadionpark, een recreatieve route van vijf kilometer op Rotterdam-Zuid. Drie Schotse hooglanders helpen bij het dagelijks beheer door onkruid, gras en jonge boompjes op te eten.
Het eiland is een getijdenpark, waar eb en vloed vrij spel hebben op de oevers. Op het eiland van Brienenoord is dit verschil gemiddeld 1,5 meter, maar soms ook wel 2 meter! Op deze grens van land en water leven bijzondere planten dieren. Zij houden van het verschil tussen eb en vloed; en tussen het zoete rivierwater en het zoute zeewater, oftewel brak water. Een mooi stukje Rotterdam!

• We bike with average speed of 15 km/h, over at least 2 bridges crossing the river, you should be fit.
• Be aware that the tour will take three hours and that the ending time is approximate.
• Rotterdam Tours is an amateur activity group, participating is at your own risk.
• Bring sufficient water, snacks and lunch, although we might stop at a coffee bar once.
