Talk
30 years of PHP: The brilliant, the bad, and the baffling.

In 30 years PHP grew from a scrappy tool created by Rasmus to help write his personal website to a robust workhorse powering large swaths of the internet and more. In this presentation we will revisit PHP’s organic evolutionary journey exploring what made it so brilliant even if at times it had some truly frightening behaviours. From register_globals and magic quotes, it’s first dabbles with an object model in PHP 4, to its modern incarnation with type declarations, attributes, and more sane behaviour. Let’s celebrate PHP with fun and humour and wish for many more years of it!
