Interactive Film Class - Prepare and Shoot a Subtle Story

Details

Hi everybody,

I am happy to announce the continuation of our new series of interactive film classes. We will provide a film class that introduces many aspects of film making. Our goal is to create a new film community in Dublin. One which is collaborative, supportive and welcoming to all those who are interested in taking part in the filmmaking process.

*The rent for our room is cheap at around €120 for 3 hours, which will be covered by an attendance fee of €10. The fee is paid in-person at the start of the workshop(in cash or by Revolut).

This lesson will allow attendees to experience creating and performing a subtle story. We will have the opportunity to storyboard, act out and shoot a scenario where your task will be to provide the viewer clues to the story. The challenge is to keep the viewer guessing and engaged with your work.

Let's layout the the class steps:

1)Introduction: A quick introduction and welcome to the group, followed by self-introduction by each attendee.

2)Receiving a scenario: A random scenario will be given out to small groups. Each group will discuss and plan out a shoot for their scenario. Each moment should give a further clue to the story.

3)Collaborative planning of stage direction: In this stage, groups will take their basic plan and then develop the stage direction of their scene. This will involve deciding the imagined location, positioning of the actors and the movements and gestures they will use.

4)Storyboard the scene: Having completed their stage direction, the groups will storyboard the scene. They will discuss and decide what shots and angles they would like to use to present their scene. The rough drawings of the storyboard will be a guide for the shoot.

5)Act and Film: The groups will then prepare to act out and film their scenes. The members of each group will decide whether they would like to do some acting or filming. There will be 2 cameras and lighting equipment provided for the groups to experiment with. The use of the equipment will be supervised by the organizers. Have fun filming your scene!

6)Feedback: During this stage, attendees can also share their opinion on each step of the class and tell us which areas they would like to focus on more. This project is still in development and feedback from the community is very important.

That is the structure of the class, but what's more important are the members who come out and join the activity, trying something new or sharing their experience with a friendly group who share a common goal.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing some fun moments.

Oisin
