What we're about

We tell stories, make films, take photographs, and make a difference for the creative class in Philadelphia.

Join us for monthly discussions and share current projects for critique. Connect with like minded creatives and learn about new projects to collaborate on. Our goal is to support each other and raise the quality of our work and strengthen the local creative economy. There isn't much we wont talk about when it comes to creative a film or running a production company. We are here to help each other out and lift each other up. If you have an idea for a script, you are welcome to join if you have worked on many film for 20 years then you are welcome to join also.

We were founded out of the Philly DoGooder Video Hackathon in 2013. Last year 25 of us came together for local causes to make 25 films in 10 days. The friends we made were great but our impact was greater. 4 of us started our own production houses, 2 started video marketing companies, 2 people were hired by local creative agencies and all of our work reach 1.2 million people. Let's see what else we can do together.

Your official RSVP will be on this page, https://roughcutsfilmmakers.com/virtualevents You will also find a signup form at the same page. At our monthly screenings, we show work of people who are in the audience with us. We strive to have a diverse representation of people, voices, backgrounds, and experience levels. We typically show 8 films under 10mins. We now are reserving half (4) spots for minority filmmakers. The feedback from a community of peers is so valuable to receive on your films, but it actually helps for all those viewers also, So if your film doesn’t get selected, your perspective and critique are still a great way to contribute. I hope we get to watch your film this month! Here is out it works. you will have a total of 15mins. This means you can show a 1min film and have a 14mins feedback session. Alternatively, you can show your 12min film and talk for 3mins. We typically suggest less than 10mins. This is called Rough Cuts so we are happy to see things that are not quite finished, might still be writing/filming or just waiting for the audio mix. We love your finished work also, but only within the last 3 years.
