BIP-110 RDTS Watch Party - Online Only
Details
**Updated time to reflect the actual block height window**
Bitcoin is heading into one of its most contested activations in years, and we're getting together (virtually) to watch it unfold.
What's happening: BIP-110, also known as RDTS (Reduced Data Temporary Softfork), is a proposal to temporarily restrict non-financial data (think Ordinals, BRC-20s, Runes, and oversized OP_RETURN payloads) from being embedded in Bitcoin transactions. It's designed to activate via a hybrid mechanism: miners can lock it in early with 55% signaling, or a mandatory "flag day" UASF kicks in regardless of miner support.
Where things stand right now:
- Mandatory signaling opens around Block 961,632 · ~8 Aug 2026
- Lock-in happens no later than block 963,648
- Activation is projected around September 1, 2026
- The rules auto-expire roughly a year later
- Miner signaling has been minimal for most of the year, which is exactly why the mandatory UASF path matters as it doesn't need miners on board to take effect on enforcing nodes
Why it's controversial: Supporters argue it protects Bitcoin's role as sound money and keeps block space focused on payments. Critics warn that a low/absent miner signaling threshold raises real risk of a chain split, and that restricting how the scripting system can be used sets a precedent worth debating carefully. Reasonable bitcoiners land on different sides of this one and that's fine. Whether you support BIP-110 or not, we'd like you to come.
Join us online (via the Jitsi link below) as we track signaling data together, walk through what activation would actually mean for node runners and wallets, and talk through the split risk in plain language. Bring your questions! Whether new to this topic or a hardened node runner, everyone's welcome.
