“The sewers beneath Enkarabis have gone quiet. Maintenance crews and inspectors sent into the undercity have failed to return, and now the lower tunnels are officially sealed off. No bodies. No answers. Just silence.
Except for one thing.
A sound—low, pulsing, and constant—has begun to echo up from the deep tunnels. No one can say what it is. Some swear it’s just the wind through broken pipes. Others claim it’s a voice.
The Ember Exchange, one of the city’s dominant trade guilds, has posted a notice:
"Investigators needed. Discretion and resilience required. Payment upon completion."
The task is simple: descend, discover what’s happened to the missing workers, and put an end to whatever’s causing the disturbance—if you survive. The tunnels are ancient, waterlogged, and barely charted. Whatever is making that sound down there… it doesn’t want to be found.”
This is a level 7, D&D 5e adventure that takes place in the city of Enkarabis, located deep in the wastelands. All members of the party are party have been hired by the Ember Exchange Guild to delve deep into the sewers and investigate what has happened to the missing workers.
We will use Discord and D&D Beyond to plan the game session and create characters.
Character Creation
D&D 2024 updates are in effect as per the backwards compatibility guidelines. (No 3rd party or homebrew content).
Race/Species: All allowed.
Class: All allowed, except Artificer and Blood Hunter. (Firearms are prohibited). Multi-classing is also allowed. (2024 classes only. This can still include sub-classes from 2014.)
Background: A background includes the following:
(1) Ability Scores. A background lists three of your character’s ability scores. Increase one by 2 and another one by 1, or increase all three by 1. None of these increases can raise a score above 20.
(2) Feat. A background gives your character a specified Origin feat.
(3) Skill Proficiencies. A background gives your character proficiency in two specified skills.
(4) Tool Proficiency. Each background gives a character proficiency with one tool—either a specific tool or one chosen from the Artisan’s Tools category.
(5) Equipment. Each background offers a choice between a package of equipment and 50 GP.
Stats: Standard array or point buy for generating stats.
Starting Level: All characters will start at level 7. This will provide the opportunity to create moderately powerful PCs.
Health Point Type: Fixed.
Magic Items and Equipment: You will all have the starting gear for your characters. In addition, please choose one magic item of rare classification or lower to add to your PC. Potions and scrolls are also considered magic items and are therefore included as a potential choice. I would suggest items that aren’t necessarily powerful but rather something that compliments your characters persona or back story. You are free to choose any magic items within the parameters provided however. All characters have 300 gold pieces. Feel free to spend this on spell components or other equipment your PC may have on them after adventuring for such a long time. (Homebrew magic items are prohibited).
I look forward to playing with you all!
