D&D 5e / The Rogue General - Level 8 / Otsuka RPG Day

“You are members of the Crimson Covenant, Enkarbis’ shadowy guild of assassins, whispered killers and silent blades trusted with missions too delicate or dangerous for soldiers or spies. Your next contract takes you beyond the safety of the city walls and into the wastelands, where survival is as dangerous as the mission itself. A high-ranking officer of the Ashen Legion, General Bassam, has gone rogue. He has fled the city with nearly a hundred trained soldiers, turning his company into a private army. His reasons are unknown, but his betrayal cannot stand. If left unchecked, Bassam could fracture the Legion’s control and leave Enkarbis vulnerable.

Find Bassam. Kill him and leave no doubt that betrayal ends in blood.

He has made camp at the base of a massive obsidian tower, one of the ancient spires that shields the land from the prowling voidspawn after nightfall. This means he is fortified, protected, and has the loyalty of his soldiers. You must plan your approach. You are not without aid. A trusted contact, Seraph, a drow captain of the Ashen Legion, is currently assigned to the general’s company. Meet her at the rendezvous point and devise a way to complete your mission.

The wastelands are treacherous, the general is dangerous, and the obsidian tower offers him a bastion. But you are the Covenant and your blades carve destiny from shadow.

Do not fail.”

This is a level 8, D&D 5e adventure that takes place in the wastelands of Enkarabis. All members of the party are members of the Crimson Covenant. An assassins guild located in the city of Enkarabis.

We will use Discord and D&D Beyond to plan the game session and create characters.

Character Creation

D&D 2024 updates are in effect as per the backwards compatibility guidelines. (No 3rd party or homebrew content).

Race/Species: All allowed.

Class: 1st party 2024 classes only. This can still include sub-classes from 2014 as per backwards compatibility rules.

Background: A background includes the following:

(1) Ability Scores. A background lists three of your character’s ability scores. Increase one by 2 and another one by 1, or increase all three by 1. None of these increases can raise a score above 20.

(2) Feat. A background gives your character a specified Origin feat.

(3) Skill Proficiencies. A background gives your character proficiency in two specified skills.

(4) Tool Proficiency. Each background gives a character proficiency with one tool—either a specific tool or one chosen from the Artisan’s Tools category.

(5) Equipment. Each background offers a choice between a package of equipment and 50 GP.

Stats: Standard array or point buy for generating stats.

Starting Level: All characters will start at level 8. This will provide the opportunity to create moderately powerful PCs.

Health Point Type: Fixed.

Magic Items and Equipment: You will all have the starting gear for your characters. In addition, please choose one magic item of rare classification or lower to add to your PC. Potions and scrolls are also considered magic items and are therefore included as a potential choice. I would suggest items that aren’t necessarily powerful but rather something that compliments your characters persona or back story. You are free to choose any magic items within the parameters provided however. All characters have 300 gold pieces. Feel free to spend this on spell components or other equipment your PC may have on them after adventuring for such a long time. Any spell that has a material cost, you are considered to have it in your possession already. Any cost that is consumed upon use, you have one casting of. (Homebrew magic items are prohibited).
