THE RSVP COUNT FOR THIS MEETUP GROUP EVENT DOES NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF REMAINING SEATS AVAILABLE. We will no longer be requesting RSVPs for these wine lover private railcar trips as most people seem to just buy their ticket without RSVPing to let everyone else know they are going.

Actually, this particular trip is SOLD OUT mostly by members of this Meetup Group and the OC Wine Meetup Group. There are future trips that may still have seats available on January 23 and April 10. But call soon as they do fill up pretty fast. You can purchase your tickets by calling 800-539-7245.

A friend who owns the Overland Trail private railcar is running another trip from Los Angeles to the Downtown Santa Barbara Wine Trail. Most of the prior trips sold out just from my two Meetup Groups before tickets were even made available to the public! If you want to go again or didn't get a chance to go on a prior trip, here is another chance!

A map of the Downtown Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail and the location of the wine tasting rooms can be found at: https://TrainWeb.org/rtmeetup/SantaBarbaraUrbanWineTrail.pdf

Wine tasting rooms numbered 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 are all within 2 or 3 blocks of the Amtrak Station where we will depart the train about 10:30 AM. An additional wine tasting room, CoastalWinery.com (https://www.coastalwinery.com/), is located right on the pier and opens at 11 AM.

Preliminary plans are to have an escorted tour of as many of these wine tasting rooms as time allows with a break for lunch at one of the many downtown eateries. At no extra cost you are welcome to tag along on the escorted tour, or you may go off to explore at your own pace. Each wine tasting room charges between $5 and $15 for between 3 and 7 pours at each room. You are not required to participate in the tastings at every stop (or any stop).

Round-trip in the private railcar including breakfast and dinner is still LESS THAN $100 !!! That is less than double the cost to just travel by regular coach to Santa Barbara on Amtrak.

You can park directly under the MTA building at L.A. Union Station all day for just $6. Amtrak staff may not be aware of this special event but they will be able to point you to the right track if you ask for Train #799. The Overland Trail will be on the Amtrak train that has just one level, usually the only Amtrak train without 2 levels in the station.

The train departs Los Angeles at 7:30AM arriving in Santa Barbara at 10:30AM. The return train departs at 4:31PM arriving back at 7:15PM.

Please call 800-539-7245 to purchase your ticket. Buy your ticket soon to avoid disappointment!

This trip is also open to the general public and not just to this Meetup Group.

Our special conveyance: The Overland Trail is a 1940s built, former Southern Pacific club lounge that was built as a mid train 1st class lounge for the San Francisco Overland. The car features a stunning Streamline Modern interior, a most gracious quarter-circle bar, a comfortable ride, and expansive picture windows. You'll arrive in Santa Barbara in style aboard this gem from the past!

Our Routing: The Wine Lover's Train transverses the spectacular "coast line" of the former Southern Pacific Railroad (now Union Pacific). This was the route of the famed Coast Daylight, described by many as, "the most beautiful train in the world". The train was inaugurated on March 21, 1937 and ran up until the advent of Amtrak in 1971. Our special car will be coupled to the regularly scheduled Amtrak train #799, northbound and train #792 southbound. We'll enjoy many scenic highlights through the large picture windows of the Overland Trail including the; Santa Susana pass, many seaside miles along the mighty Pacific Ocean, and, of course, our final destination, the "American Riviera" - aka, Santa Barbara.
