Mapping the Path to Value: The missing piece of your Agile-DevOps transition

Mapping the Path to Value: The missing piece of your Agile-DevOps transition

Details

Value Streams have been a core of Lean thinking for decades. The concept of understanding “how works gets through the system and in customer hands” started with Toyota and the Lean Manufacturing movement and has been widely embraced since then. However, most businesses are still not leveraging the understanding of value streams to their full capability. Many companies are sub-optimizing by focusing only on agile team velocity, or production pipeline metrics. To add to that—leadership understanding and buy in for a large value stream mapping activity is often not there, so our efforts repeatedly fail.

In this session, Heidi will demystify the concept of value streams and share what she has learned over the years of both doing--and attempting to do--value stream mapping, both as an employee inside organizations and as a consultant.

By the end of the session, you’ll have a better understanding of why you should care about Value Stream Mapping and what you can do to make progress on this in your organization.

You will learn:

  • What is value stream mapping and why mapping the path to value is crucial to helping your business achieve the promised value of Agile and DevOps
  • The myths and misunderstandings people have about Value Streams and Value Stream Mapping
  • The lean principles that will help you succeed in this activity (and in your daily life)
  • Ways to start with the mapping activity in a lightweight way
