Cockpit Views and Hotwires
Details
Whether it's looking back in time or looking forward to the future, this meetup has something for every Ruby developer out there! We are most happily back in Workday (@workday) for the first time in a long time. They will be generously sponsoring the food and the drinks, and - if that's not enough on your plate - we have a whopping three great talks to digest! We will seek to inspire... with better operations, Postgres views and Hotwire!
### "Cockpit: A short flight to Workday operations management" by Adrian Carroll
In this talk, Adrian will give an overview of the Workday environment and how Ruby is used to make the life of ops engineers a little easier. Tune in to find out about how we use Rails to hide the complexities of managing an ever-growing fleet.
### "Sit Back and Enjoy the Views! How We Use Postgres Views for Crunching Large Datasets" by Fergal Condron
Big data needs big solutions. And, when you need to be able to query the big stuff fast, a tried and tested solution is to materialise it! See how Workday uses Postgres views to achieve this and find out how one of the world's most loved databases can simplify and speed up your queries.
### "Hotwire" by Kevin Fagan
We've had Hotwire talks before but there is always a big demand from Ruby Irelanders to hear about Rails' crown jewels once more. In this talk, Kevin will show how to take an app and layer on progressive enhancements from no JS to turbo drives, turbo frames and all the way to turbo streams! If you're struggling to tell your turbo frame from your turbo stream then this talk may be what you've been waiting for!
We are very grateful to Workday for hosting and sponsoring this meetup.
Note: Doors open at 6:00pm, which gives a little extra time for the social side of things. But don't worry if you can't make it exactly quite that early... talks will only start at 7pm.
NB: Please note that everybody needs to sign up. If you are bringing a +1 then that other person's name needs to be in the comments (or they can sign up separately).
Minimum age limit to attend is 18 years.
