Resilient Systems Start with the Human Stack

Details
As we slide towards the summer and become unusually accustomed to early season sunshine, we'll cast a few rays of light on some of the deeper insights into everybody's favourite language and framework. Yep, it's Ruby on Rails to the max in this event, courtesy of Intercom's Jaehurn Nam who will be diving into Rails' internals and resurfacing with pearls of wisdom for teams and organisational culture to boot. As if that's not enough, Jeferson Oliveira will show how to keep your cool during deployments with Devopness. So join us for this exciting evening of tech talks!
### "Resilient Systems Start with the Human Stack" by Jaehurn Nam
Ruby on Rails gives us the luxury to move fast and build on powerful abstractions, but that luxury comes with a trap. You think you understand the system, but you don’t. Real resilience comes from slowing down, digging deep, and building a true mental model of what’s actually happening. In this talk, we’ll share how we turned a noisy, unreliable feature into one of the most dependable parts of our system. Not by throwing tools at the problem, but by patiently reading logs, understanding Rails internals, and connecting the dots. Along the way, I’ll talk about how teams, like systems, benefit when individuals go deep, share what they learn, and build a culture where that kind of depth is normal.
### "Logs Are Zen. Deploys Should Be Too" by Jeferson Oliveira
You’ve built solid application code, debugged with grace, and tamed the logs - so why lose your mind when it’s time to deploy? This talk shows alternative ways to deploy Ruby applications to AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, Google Cloud, ..., using Devopness, skipping most of the "DevOps drama". Get apps running in the cloud without all the scripts, configs, YAML files and chaos. Less stress, more deploys - and maybe even a little fun :-) Keep your Zen from dev to prod!
We are very grateful to Intercom for hosting and sponsoring this meetup, including food and beverages.
Note: Doors at Intercom open at 6:30pm, with pizza served immediately! Talks start at 7pm.
