From Theory to Practice: Building Comprehensive PL/SQL Test Suites Using Two Distinct Approaches
In this talk we will take a look at two distinct approaches to creating an automated test suite for an application that runs in Oracle Apex. The talk will focus on testing the backend type code, the code written in PLSQL. We will start with a familiar tool for some, Ruby and Minitest and leverage the popular gems Sequel ORM, pry/debug and FactoryGirl as well as introduce the ruby-plsql gem. After seeing how we can test using Ruby, via a Docker container, we will then move over to SQL Developer and dive into testing using utPLSQL. To wrap up we will discuss some Pros and Cons to each approach, and possibly learn that although one might be more comfortable using a familiar toolset, sometimes we need to expand our tool bag.
