Junior Lightning Talks
Details
Welcome to a special WellRailed. This week we bring you a range of talks aimed at those starting out with RoR and those who are cross training from other languages. Come and learn something new, and meet other developers who are starting their Rails journey (down the rabbit hole).
We especially want to welcome some new faces into the network, so if you are part of Summer of Tech, Enspiral Dev Academy or Rails Girls please do sign up and come along.
Presentations:
Kelly Cheesman - Kelly, the Wellington RG co-organiser, will briefly talk about some of the highlights and challenges from the most recent Rails Girls event where 50 women had an introduction to this wonderful world of programming.
Rob Ramsay - So What is a Framework? Rails is referred to as a "framework" but what does that actually mean? Rob will cover this and the ways in which code is included/shared in Ruby.
Rachel Collingridge - From C# .NET to Ruby on Rails: 10 things I like about you"
Rachel has 10 years’ experience in C# and is now taking on the challenge of cross training in Ruby at Powershop.

Megan Bowra-Dean - Debugging - What we can do as developers when things (inevitably) break
Most of the time we throw up our hands in the air when we see error messages in software, having very little ability to diagnose or fix them. However we as developers do have the power to do something. Megan will talk about commonly used tools and techniques in Ruby on Rails that allow us to hunt out and squash the bugs in our code.
Mix Irving - Ενημέρωση Διαβούλευση Απόφαση | Loomio
What you need to know about setting up a project for internationalisation.
How Wellington-based open source project Loomio has translated their site into 21 languages in under a year, and why it is so important for open source projects to have internationalisation.
Doors will open at 5:30 with the presentations starting at 6pm.
Sponsorship:
We've got two great sponsors for the night — Optimal Workshop is sharing their sweet office with us and Rails Girls are shouting the pizza and drink. Thanks guys!
