Cuban 🇨🇺 Salsa and Rueda de Casino.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Rueda de Casino, the ‘Wheel dance of the casino.’ Here you will find a playground for lovers of Salsa music and social dance, and have fun on the dance floor with like-minded friends. In Rueda de Casino dance meets play-acting; you could be challenged, tricked, teased, flirted with, or maybe just given an opportunity to dance to good music. Whatever you are looking for, Rueda de Casino will provide you with plenty of fun and enjoyment.
Although Rueda de Casino is the proper name for this dance, it may also be referred to as the Cuban wheel, Salsa Rueda, Rueda Salsa, La Rueda, or just Rueda. ‘Rueda’ means wheel in Spanish. It is an exciting dance for couples who form a circle and simultaneously dance a sequence of figures, usually referred to as ‘moves,’ in response to vocalizing ‘calls’ from a member of the group acting as a ‘caller.’ Everyone is supposed to know the calls and the moves they represent and to be able to respond at short notice. Rueda is an informal street dance indirectly influenced by European dance traditions, and combines the Rock and Roll inspired ‘Casino’ style Salsa, with earlier Cuban Son and Danzón traditions, and is danced to many kinds of Salsa music.
Rueda is a dance of teamwork, with the shared aim of navigating the unique set of moves created by the caller for each piece of music, without making any mistakes, while having fun. Meanwhile, the caller aims to create continuous interest by choreographing a variety of interconnecting moves These may be simple or complex, involve changes of dance position, changes of direction, and changes of partner, and incorporate turns, claps, stamps, play moves, and even trick moves to catch you out.

The focus is on growing your figure vocabulary, improving timing, and refining your lead-follow technique. You’ll also begin working with increased speed and complexity while learning to stay connected with the group and adapt to different structures and formations.The Improver level is a vital part of your dance journey—helping you move from foundational steps to more fluid, expressive, and dynamic dancing. We highly recommend spending a few months at this level before progressing to Intermediate. Each Rueda group has its own rhythm, style, and conventions, and this level ensures you’re well-prepared to thrive in more advanced circles.
