New Meeting: Evanston Running Meetup (Northwestern University)

Announcing a new meeting for The Chicago Running Meetup Group!

What: Evanston Running Meetup (Northwestern University)

When: Saturday, June 7, 11:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meeting Description: Summer is almost here! Come and join us for fresh air, exercise and fellowship...
-------------
This is a beautiful run around the green colored Northwestern University Lagoon, partly along the shore of Lake Michigan. Course is a paved 1 mile loop, so the distance is flexible from 3-6 miles, depending on what pace you run. You can run on the grass beside the paved path too (closer to Lake Michigan) like I often do, which adds slightly to the length of each loop. My hope is to have a slower beginner group and a somewhat faster, more experienced group (and anything in between). Last time, we ran together around 8-9 minute pace, and then a couple people split off at 10-11 min pace for the 2nd half. Bottom line is, you can run whatever pace you want, and still stretch and grab lunch with the group afterwards like we did last time, regardless of whether we all run together or not.

We all end up at the same place by the lagoon waterfall bridge after roughly 35-45 minutes, depending on how many laps people feel like doing. The plan is to grab lunch together in downtown Evanston immediately following the run. Blind Faith Cafe has really good breakfasts (just a short car ride away, on Dempster Rd, near Chicago Ave which is the main drag through downtown Evanston). The food was awesome there last time, and reasonably priced too. It's mostly vegetarian with organic stuff and great fruit drinks, but they have awesome omelettes if you're a carnivore (omnivore :P) like yours truly, LOL.

Meet on top of the 2 story parking structure (only one there) at the far end closest to Lake Michigan. Parking is free and open to the public on weekends (and M-F after 4PM). To get there, take Sheridan Rd north from Chicago (the city) past all the Evanston beaches, and turn right on Campus Drive (South end of the Northwestern University Campus) BEFORE Sheridan Rd veers West toward Chicago Avenue, and goes away from the Lake. Drive about 50 feet on Campus Drive, and you will see the parking structure on your right. The first story is partly underground, so the parking structure is not very tall. Drive up to the top level and go all the way to the end by the Lake. Please feel free to call me on my cell: [masked], if you need help finding us, or are running a few minutes late. If you're new to running, I'd be happy to answer any questions as well.

ALSO, if you can't make it for the run and want to learn more about running from more experienced runner(s) like myself, pls feel free to join us just for lunch afterward at roughly 12Noon (or 12:15).

Note: For those of you new to the Chicago area, Evanston is on the North edge of Chicago proper (Closest major cross roads: Sheridan Rd and Chicago Ave, which is 1/4 mile west of the small parking structure on Lake Michigan where we will be meeting) .

I hope you can join us!

Happy trails,
Jon
