New Meetup: Friday after-work run up Lookout Mountain

Announcing a new Meetup for The Denver Running Meetup Group!

What: Friday after-work run up Lookout Mountain

When: Friday, July 16,[masked]:15 PM

Where: Lookout Mountain Pillars
19th st and lookout mountain
golden, CO 80401

It's time to return to Lookout Mountain! This gives people the option of trail or road, I'll likely take the trail this week. We'll start at 6:15. This is a run anyone can do, even if you have to walk occasionally (I did when I first started). It'll make you a stronger runner and we often stop for some drinks after as well.

For those that haven't come out but have thought about it or want to, here's some basics on it.

You have two basic options both are an out and back:

1) Run up the road. There's no way to get lost, you just run up hill and stay going straight. It's ~4.5miles to the 'top' at Buffalo Bills Grave. So 9 miles round trip. Total elevation gain is about 1300ft

2) Run up the road the first 1/2 mile, then go up Chimney Gulch Trail. You'll cross over the road and continue up the trail some more. There's two 'turns' on the trail after crossing the road where you want to stay on 'Lookout Mountain Trail', one is a sharp left where there's a sign for no fires, the other is a sharp right not too far after that which brings you up to the Nature Center (if you went left you'd basically stay flat and end up at Buffalo Bills Grave). This is about 3 miles out, 3 miles back. Total elevation gain is about 1500ft to the Nature Center.

Now you can do a mix of the two if you prefer since they cross about halfway up and you can end both at the grave if you want.
