Bites & Bonds: Korean Sweet Making & Local Dinner Meetup

Details
🌸 Have you ever tasted a Korean dessert that looks like a plum blossom?
In this hands-on class, you’ll make maejakgwa (매작과 梅雀菓) — a crispy,
flower-shaped Korean sweet with deep cultural roots and modern charm.
Maejakgwa is a traditional Korean tea confection that dates back to the Joseon Dynasty, once enjoyed by aristocrats and noble families.
Made with ginger, cinnamon, and sugar, this crispy and sweet treat was part of Korea’s elegant dessert culture.
In this workshop, you’ll not only learn how to make this beautiful dessert, but also hear the local story behind it — especially why we chose it in Galmae, a neighborhood whose name is said to come from mountains shaped like kudzu and plum blossoms.
After baking, we’ll gather for a light dinner and tea, sharing stories and conversations with local residents in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
👩🍳 Your Instructor – Lee Eun-seon (이은선)
Your class will be led by Lee Eun-seon, owner of Sugar Lump Cafe in Galmae.
With over 5 years of experience in baking and dessert classes, she specializes in developing locally inspired Korean treats, blending traditional recipes with modern creativity.
