📅 Schedule

📣 Welcome and Introduction
Rust Linz Organizers
5:30pm CET

We will start the night with the usual welcome round and some community news.

📣 Object Oriented Programming, and Rust (Massimiliano Mantione)
5:40pm CET

OOP has been a mainstream approach to programming for decades. In this opinionated talk, we'll see that its principles are valid but the way in which they are applied is... less so. And we'll also see how Rust, as a programming language, gently steers us in the right direction :-)

About Massimiliano

Passionate software engineer, I have worked on implementing telecom switching stations, the Mono JIT compiler, the Unity3D game engine, the V8 Javascript VM at Google, a collaborative virtual reality system on the web, and blockchains. Currently, I am working on operational research applied to logistics at scale in WorkWave.

📣 Memory Management in Rust (Rainer Stropek)
Approx. 6:20pm CET

This session is for people who are rather new to Rust or who are curious about why so many developers are passionate about the programming language. It aims to unravel the unique facets of Rust's memory management, including Ownership/Borrowing, Stack/Heap allocation, Reference Counting, and Lifetimes. Rainer will present a similar session at the upcoming OOP conference, so this is kind of his rehearsal.

About Rainer

Rainer has been a passionate programmer for 30+ years. He is chairman of the Coding Club Linz and co-founder of the Rust Linz meetup.
