Rust Melbourne July 2026
Details
Welcome to another Rust Melbourne Meetup!
Tonight there will be two talks:
Rust-Native Agentic Platform Engineering with Embedded MCP
by Jeff Aven
Building Rust-native agents for platform engineering and observability, with the MCP server embedded and vendored straight into the Rust application. Demonstrated with a concrete audit example: auditron, a compliance copilot that treats cloud as data sources accessed via SQL and ships as one self-contained binary with no runtime downloads.
Buck2: What Would it Take to Give Up Cargo?
by Cormac Relf
For a lot of people, a big selling point of Rust is not having to deal with build systems from 30 years ago. Well, the people who were sick of the tools but couldn’t switch language have been hard at work, and they’ve leapfrogged us. Not in every way, but it’s worth a look. Welcome to the 2020s.
I’ll go into where cargo falls down, the things you can do with a better build system like Buck2, and how you can reduce the time you spend waiting for builds and CI pipelines but also get a whole new toolbox for building great software.
