Rust Moravia has finally reached the (Moravian) capital!
You will hear two talks about the Rust programming language, its ecosystem and applications. Each talk is expected to take 30 minutes followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.
The first talk will be given by Jan Bobek (ThermoFisher Scientific) titled How I Learned to Stop Using C++ and Love Rust
- No Country for Old Makefiles: In a world of endless CMake scripts and cryptic configs, one tool dares to make building simple: Cargo.
- The Mutex Reloaded: When threads collide and chaos looms, only Mutex stands between order and deadlock.
- The Nightmare Before Shipping: As deadlines close in, the real horror begins: long builds, bloated binaries, and sleepless nights.
The second speaker will be Victor Ciura (Microsoft) on how to write Rust Without Fear
- "Let's rewrite it in Rust" can be a funny meme or the scariest thing when they actually make you do it... in prod 🙂
- Let me share a couple of stories about what it takes to embrace Rust at a "tiny" company with decades of experience in engineering systems that have never seen the likes of crabs.
- What are the gaps, the needs, the tools we needed to reengineer for Rust? My team's mission (in DevDiv) is to pave the path for Rust engineering and make our tooling compliant & efficient for Rust developers, just like we did with C++ and .NET.
- 2025: Are we Rust yet?
The venue for the meetup is provided by Masaryk University. Exact location (lecture room) TBA.
