Deep Dive Session 3: Protohackers Exercises Mob Coding (as far as we get)

Details

Let's dive into practical network programming with the protohackers exercises from protohackers.com.

These exercises start out with relatively simple server tasks such as a chat server or malicious TCP proxy. Then they get increasingly difficult, for example problem 6 requires us to implement a distributed system server which collects data from sensor clients, transforming it, and forwarding it to different nodes.

We'll most likely be using the Tokio crate and its friends for these.

We'll see how far we get, as these challenges are not easy, but I can promise you we'll all learn something. If you have no previous experience with Rust or Tokio, feel free to come along, it'll be fun (they said)!

I hope we can arrange to do this in a loose mob coding manner, so it would be great if you could have a recent Rust toolchain ready. I will provide a testing server.

We'll take a break at 12, at least.

Looking forward,
Rafael
