About us
This a hands-on club for people who want to recover the foundational technologies that made human life possible.
We learn and practice skills such as bow-drill fire, natural cordage, flintknapping, wood carving, clay pottery, basketry, shelter building, navigation, natural pigments, hide work, food technologies, and reading the landscape.
This is not a survivalist group, a reenactment society, or an excuse to collect rugged-looking gear. It is a community built around patience, and learning by doing.
Walt Whitman wrote: “I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable, I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.”
Our yawp is a declaration that we are more than spectators or consumers. While we may use modern technology to organize, connect, and share knowledge, the goal is always to put down the screen, pick up a skill, and make something real.
Meetups may include:
Friction-fire workshops
Cordage and natural-fiber practice
Flintknapping
Clay and primitive pottery
Basketry and containers
Shelter building
Atlatl and projectile practice
Material gathering walks
Experimental archaeology
Family-friendly skill days
Open practice and repair circles
Nature observation and tracking
Beginners are welcome. You do not need prior experience, expensive equipment, or wilderness credentials.
We are committed to safety, ethical gathering, respect for living cultural traditions, responsible use of natural materials, and leaving places better than we found them.
Put down the screen and pick up a skill. Sound your yawp.
