Many of us use GitHub in our day jobs and side projects. You may have heard about GitHub Pages and the ability to publish a web site with documentation about your project, but it can also be used as a powerful static site generator & CMS for many different use cases.

GitHub Pages is powered by Jekyll, an open source static site generator that offers "simple, blog-aware static sites". With its features around layouts, collections, data files, and variables, it can do much more than just support a blog.

In this talk, Chris will go over the pros and cons of using a static site generator and show how to get started with Jekyll and GitHub Pages. We'll cover building a simple blog, but also showing how these technologies can be used in other ways to create things like presentations and data dashboards.

Chris Busse works at APIvista as CTO where he helps his clients design, publish, and support APIs. Before joining APIvista he lead the API Consumer Services team for the Capital One DevExchange platform, supporting internal and external business partners while developing new product intent for its API product backlog. An avid supporter of his local tech community, Chris volunteers as a mentor with several startup accelerator programs and is the founder and organizer of the API Craft RVA Meetup group in Richmond, VA.

Veracity Consulting (https://www.meetveracity.com/) will be our host this month (both for venue and food/beverages).

See you there!
