Summary:
This month we’re switching gears from kernel-deep forensics to something more interactive, chaotic, and a lot more fun. We’re bringing in Jason Blanchard from Black Hills Information Security for a live Backdoors & Breaches demo! The incident response card game that has taken the cyber world by storm since making its debut at DerbyCon in 2019, where over 800 decks disappeared in a single day.

Backdoors & Breaches uses a 52-card system to simulate real-world security incidents and walk players through the tactics, tools, and processes attackers use. Each exercise is built from four card categories: Initial Compromise, Pivot & Escalate, Persistence, and C2 & Exfiltration. Making for over 3,840 possible incident scenarios to battle through. No two games play the same, and the decisions you make shape the outcome, just like a real breach.

Whether you’ve played before or you’re walking in fresh, this session gives you hands-on experience with adversary thinking, IR strategies, and the kind of decision-making pressure defenders face when things go sideways. It’s approachable, practical, and perfect for anyone who wants to sharpen their instincts without staring at a debugger for three hours.

If you want a head start, here’s a solid tutorial to get the hang of the mechanics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMY2HXUrKsg
