Backpack & Day Hike (2A). Point Reyes National Seashore (Yokuts Group)

Details

For beginner backpackers and more experienced backpackers that are looking for a less strenuous trip. No minors (under 18 years) or pets. Only moderate to heavy rain cancels. Explore the wildland habitat of the Point Reyes Peninsula, a protected area with a notably rich biological diversity. Over 45% of North American avian species and nearly 18% of California plants are found here due to the variety of habitat and uniqueness of the geology. The night of June 1st will be spent at a nearby established campground. The next morning, we will backpack from the Bear Valley Trailhead 4.6 miles to Glen Camp, a 650-foot elevation gain. We will camp there two nights. Glen Camp has potable water, vaulted toilets, food storage containers, trash receptacles and picnic tables. On the layover day (June 3rd) we will hike with daypacks to Wildcat Beach and follow the shoreline to Alamere Falls (4 miles from our camp, a descent of 750 feet to the ocean, then back up to camp; an 8-mile day hike). The morning of June 4th we will backpack out to Five Brooks Trailhead to our vehicles, a 5.5-mile trail with a descent of 600 feet. All trails are well maintained with gradual changes in elevation. Participants bring their own food and cooking supplies. A gear list and other information will be provided after securing your reservation. All permits and reservations have been obtained, limited to 8 participants, including the leader. Expenses per person: (1) about $30 for permits, reservations and parking, and (2) share cost of vehicle gas if ridesharing. Each participant will be required to complete a Sierra Club Medical Form and Participant Agreement (waiver). These forms will be provided by the leader. You must contact the leader to secure a reservation.
