About Us

We believe active participation and cooperation in life are key to creating a sustainable future. We also believe that how we organize around and promote ideas and technologies has profound implications not only for our future as a species, but for our entire planet. Join us as we attempt to think holistically, tinker, share, connect, collaborate, and most importantly build our way to better futures for ourselves and others too...

Three main ideas we want to focus on:

- Development of technologies for the technium

- Open source everything!

- Build groups (that's us!) as R&D networks

Embrace the Technium

For those not familiar with the concept of the technium, it's a term coined by Kevin Kelly in his book What Technology Wants trying to define what exactly technology is as follows: > "The technium extends beyond shiny hardware to include culture, art, social institutions, and intellectual creations of all types. It includes intangibles like software, law, and philosophical concepts. And most important, it includes the generative impulses of our inventions to encourage more tool making, more technology invention, and more self-enhancing connections." Ultimately, this covers the entirety of our creations as a species, some would argue even beyond, and if you focus on that last sentence you get a very clear sense that what we imagine, our ideas, can and do have a life of their own. Now, if our ideas do indeed have a life of their own, then imagine the life and impact of what we imagine together can have...

Open Source Everything!

Why open source? Because ideas want to be freed and open source not only provides them with that freedom, but it has the power to create a level playing field for all. So, why not develop our ideas in the open where everyone can see them, replicate, test, and improve on them. Once the entirety of the technium is open source there should be no limit to what can be built!

Build Groups as Social R&D Networks

The idea is to start off with single and multiple day builds of specific key infrastructure and technologies where participants can learn, teach, and share experience with each other and in time generate enough momentum in the technium such that one day we have the capability of building entire self-reliant ad hoc communities sustainably! With our current methods and technologies this would be devastating to the planet. However, if we focus our energy and resources on creating sustainable, resilient, and regenerative models and technologies we believe we have the capability of creating entire ecosystems where all life forms can thrive, this will only be possible through cooperation, sharing, and collaboration.
