Cardiac Bypass Hike and Tailgate (Advanced/Experienced Intermediate)
NOTE THE NEW LEAVE TIME: The hike is classified as ADVANCED because of the 45 minute extremely steep uphill climb for almost 1 mile which is equal to 65 flights of stairs. Please be considerate before you RSVP as we will not leave you behind if you are struggling, however that will have an affect on those members that came for the exercise but instead chose to help you. This hike is suitable for intermediate hikers that are accustomed to hiking UP HILL with a 1000 foot elevation gain. This hike is not suitable for beginners, do not make this your first hike. Come join us to an excellent midweek hike that's about 5.5 miles long . The entire hike is awe-inspiring with beautiful scenery which includes Knickerbocker Falls cascading into the river below. We'll stop at the river to marvel at the view. This complete hike is over lush green mountains and hills, amid a wide variety of trees. After the river, we'll make a long uphill climb. You could experience breathing challenges and joint pain, so keep these conditions in mind. We tailgate (Share Snacks ) after the hike and generally wrap up by 8:30. This is a dog friendly event so bring 'em along. They'll be grateful you did. Things to Bring: water, headlamp, food/snacks/beverages to share, a smile and a gentle attitude. To help minimize our trash, please bring personal eating utensils: a bowl, plate, fork and spoon that you can take home a wash. Please follow these directions and not the map link. We'll meet at the trailhead: Take the I-80 towards Reno and exit at Newcastle Rd. heading straight to Indian Hill Rd. Turn left at Auburn-Folsom Rd. and a right turn on Maidu Dr. Go straight on Maidu until it dead ends where you'll see a green gate with a sign that reads 143. Park along the sides. The hike starts on the other side of the green gate down the hill. Please click on the map icon for more details. See you on the Trail!

Why join the Sacramento Hiking Meetup Group?

The Sacramento Hiking Meetup Group (SHMG) is one of the oldest and most premier event-led meetup group. We've been around over 12 years and enjoy a membership than 2000+ hiking enthusiasts.

The SHMG is proud of it's many Adventures, our members, and particularly our hard working and passionate hiking organizers. They are the ones who map, scout, plan and schedule hikes that hikers of all levels will enjoy.

All members (Sacramento Hikers) can suggest a Meetup (event). Once a Meetup is adopted by an Organizer, or when 3 Sacramento Hikers sign on, the event will be considered a "Go" and will be announced to all Sacramento Hikers.

Our group meets many times a month and ride-sharing is encouraged to local areas in Auburn, the desolation wilderness in the Sierras, coastal, urban and midtown hikes. Whether we're on a scenic trail looking at abundant flowers; admiring the different species of trees or being on top of a mountain enjoying the scenic views and feeling the air in solitude, we are together in sharing the moment of just being there. Come and join us and yes, let's get outside!

See you on the Trail!
