About the class:

Join us for a hands-on cake decorating experience where creativity meets craftsmanship.

In this immersive class, each student will build their own square cake from start to finish—learning foundational techniques in leveling, stacking, filling, crumb coating, and achieving a smooth, professional finish.

Once your cake is prepared, you’ll design and cut fondant shapes to create your own unique “quilt square.”

We’ll cover essential fondant handling skills, clean cutting techniques, color coordination, pattern planning, and precise placement to achieve crisp, polished results.

At the end of class, we’ll bring all of the individual cake squares together and arrange them into a stunning collaborative quilt cake—showcasing how each distinct design contributes to one cohesive masterpiece.

This class is perfect for beginners looking to build strong fundamentals as well as decorators who want to refine their finishing skills and explore creative pattern work, cake-style.

For anyone new to quilting or cake decorating, Swoon Studio will have plenty of inspiration for you to use to create your quilt cake.

You’ll leave with your completed square cake, practical decorating techniques, and the confidence to recreate the look on your own.

All materials and boxes for take home are provided. No quilting or cake decorating experience needed.
