Join the Sacramento Valley Conservancy for a hands-on volunteer opportunity to help restore native habitat at Deer Creek Hills Preserve. Volunteers will assist in planting locally sourced native trees, shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers within established restoration sites within the preserve.
The plants being installed have been carefully selected to enhance habitat for pollinators, birds, and other native wildlife while improving the health and resilience of Deer Creek Hills’ grassland and oak woodland ecosystems. We will also be planting seeds collected at the preserve, helping preserve the unique genetic diversity of local plant communities and ensuring future restoration efforts are adapted to the region’s climate and soils.
Throughout the day, volunteers will learn proper planting techniques, the ecological importance of native vegetation, and how restoration projects support biodiversity, improve habitat connectivity, and build resilience to climate change. Staff will also share information about the preserve’s unique natural resources and the long-term management of these restoration sites.
Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or simply interested in giving back to nature, your participation will make a lasting contribution to conservation in the Sacramento region.
No prior experience is necessary—training, tools, gloves, and guidance will be provided by Sacramento Valley Conservancy staff. Volunteers should be prepared to work outdoors on uneven terrain, wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, dress for the weather, bring plenty of water, and be ready for a rewarding day of restoring one of Sacramento County’s most remarkable natural landscapes.
If you are unable to stay the entire duration, please let us know in advance.
