Deep Rest: Layer by Layer
A restorative journey through body, breath, mind, sound, and stillness.

**SIGN UP: https://www.sacredrootsnc.com/community-events**

This Deep Rest experience is a gentle, immersive practice designed to help your body and mind settle layer by layer into deep rest.

Rather than asking you to relax all at once, the evening unfolds gradually. Each part of the practice supports a different aspect of your experience—starting with the physical body and slowly moving inward toward quieter and more subtle layers of awareness.

We begin with restorative yoga, using supportive shapes and props to help the body release effort and tension. From there, we explore gentle breath practices that help the nervous system slow down and settle.

Once the body and breath have softened, you’ll be guided through Yoga Nidra, a deeply restful meditation sometimes called “yogic sleep,” where the mind can begin to unwind while the body rests.
From this grounded place, we move into a therapeutic sound bath, allowing the vibrations of singing bowls and other instruments to wash through the space. Because the nervous system has already been prepared through the earlier practices, the sound can be received as soothing and supportive rather than stimulating.
Finally, we rest together in a period of quiet stillness, giving the body and mind time to integrate the experience.

In yogic philosophy, this kind of journey is sometimes described as moving through the layers of our being—tending first to the body, then the breath and nervous system, then the mind, and finally resting in a deeper sense of awareness and connection. You don’t need to know anything about yoga philosophy to benefit from the experience; the practices themselves guide the process naturally.

What the Evening Will Look Like
Your experience will unfold gradually:
• Arrival and time to create a comfortable resting space
• Restorative yoga to help the body release tension
• Gentle breath practices to calm the nervous system
• Yoga Nidra guided meditation for deep mental rest
• Therapeutic sound bath with singing bowls
• Quiet integration and closing
The entire experience is slow, spacious, and mostly floor-based.

Comfort & Accessibility
At the start of the evening, you’ll create a comfortable resting space with props available in the room, allowing the body to feel supported as we gently settle layer by layer into deeper rest.

You are also encouraged to bring anything that helps your body rest comfortably, such as:
-an extra yoga mat or padding
-pillows or bolsters
-blankets or a weighted blanket
-warm, comfortable clothing
-an eye pillow or eye mask
-tea or water
-a journal for reflection afterward

A Brain- and Body-Friendly Practice
This experience is intentionally slow and adaptable. You are always welcome to:
-change positions
-sit instead of lying down
-step out for a break
-simply rest quietly
Listening to your body is always encouraged.

Who This Is For
This experience can be supportive for people who are feeling:
-overwhelmed or overstimulated
-mentally or physically fatigued
-disconnected from rest
-in need of deep nervous system support

It is also simply a beautiful space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.

No yoga experience is required.

Come as you are, settle into a comfortable space, and allow yourself the rare opportunity to rest deeply—body, mind, and spirit.
