sex, lies, and videotape (1989) discussion
Details
Let's discuss this strange and singular relationship drama, often cited as the film that kicked off a new wave of independent filmmaking in the 1990s.
While dated in many ways, in others it feels strikingly modern and relevant. It raises philosophical questions about human relationships and technology: is the camera lens a barrier to connection, or a bridge? Does it inhibit intimacy, or can it foster or deepen it? How does it impact our relationships (with each other and with ourselves), and does it play a constructive or destructive role?
And, most importantly: is there any presence on screen more compelling than James Spader playing a pervert?
Much to discuss!
