SAE Innovations in Mobility (https://www.meetup.com/SAE-Innovations-in-Mobility) meetup group presents...

Pedestrian Avoidance Using Smart Devices

Thursday, August 10th at 6:30pm
Prospect Silicon Valley, 1608 Las Plumas Ave, San Jose, CA

RSVP at: https://www.meetup.com/SAE-Innovations-in-Mobility/events/242210488

Jens Kotte from fka in Aachen, Germany will present how state-of-the-art pedestrian collision avoidance systems can be improved by using smart devices as an additional information source. Relevant parameters for predicting pedestrian presence in the next seconds and how these can be made available in enhanced pedestrian collision avoidance systems by e.g. including smart devices as additional sensors are introduced. Challenges that come along with the usage of this additional information source such as e.g. information privacy and inaccuracies of the localization are discussed and a concept of an enhanced V2X pedestrian collision avoidance system that considers these challenges is introduced. The talk closes with a perspective on additional research needs.

Jens Kotte received his degree in mechanical engineering in 2012 from RWTH Aachen University, afterwards working as an engineer and research assistant in the ADAS department of ika – RWTH (https://www.ika.rwth-aachen.de/en/) Aachen University. In 2015 he joined fka (https://www.fka.de/) ( Forschungsgesellschaft Kraftfahrwesen mbH Aachen), an independent research partner for the automobile industry and partner of ika, and served as CTO of their new Silicon Valley subsidiary fka SV in San Jose until end of March 2016. Upon his return to Germany, he has been working as a Senior Engineer and Manager Active Safety at fka. Jens has been involved in several public and privately funded research projects (e.g. KONVOI, SARTRE, eGeneration and UR:BAN). In addition to truck automation his main research focus is on active safety systems and the prediction of interacting traffic participants.

Join us on August 10th for a great presentation and welcoming Jens back to the Valley.

Networking begins at 6:30, and the presentation will begin promptly at 7pm. Food and beverages (BEER!) will be provided. The fka driving simulator will be available following Q&A.

Kind Regards,
