ABSTRACT
Automakers and autonomous vehicle (AV) developers face major challenges in complying with fragmented traffic regulations across 89,000+ local governing units, 3,100+ counties, and 50 states. To address this, a unified, AI-driven solution is needed to organize road rules into a searchable database, interpret vague or conflicting regulations, identify jurisdictional differences, and enable easy compliance validation.
Audi’s ADAS Hub in San Jose identified this gap four years ago and launched a pioneering initiative to digitize road rules for automated transportation. Today, they are recognized for their leadership by industry stakeholders and regulators.
The project tackles common challenges such as decentralized rule structures, limited automation, complex stakeholder landscapes, and rule interpretation. This initiative not only streamlines compliance but also lays the foundation for safer, smarter automated driving systems.

Ishan Tyagi is the Project Lead for Traffic Regulation and Compliance for L2++ to L4 automated driving systems in California. With a lifelong passion for cars and road safety, Ishan has played a key role in shaping the future of intelligent mobility. His career spans major OEMs including Ford, Honda, and Toyota, where he contributed to the development and release of ADAS and ADS functions—some of which are now on the road with leading manufacturers.
Ishan’s core focus is on smart compliance, ensuring that automated systems not only perform reliably but also align with complex traffic regulations. His work bridges engineering innovation with regulatory clarity, helping build safer and more trusted autonomous technologies.
At Audi’s ADAS Hub in San Jose, Ishan leads efforts to digitize traffic rules and validate compliance through AI-driven simulations and stakeholder collaboration. His leadership has helped establish Audi as a market leader in this space.
Outside of engineering, Ishan expresses his creativity as a part-time DJ, sharing music that reflects his dynamic personality and passion for rhythm. Whether in mobility or music, Ishan brings precision, energy, and vision to everything he does.
