SAGA’s Spring Campout to El Prado at Mt. Laguna is open for signups.

We are now taking signups for SAGA’s Spring Campout, June 27– 30, 2024 at the El Prado Group Campground in the Mt. Laguna area of San Diego County. The deadline for signing up is June 16, 2024 or until the trip is full. The trip is a joint venture with LA and San Diego, so it promises to be festive as usual.
After more than 40 years of organizing campouts, this is SAGA's first three night campout, Thursday to Sunday, or optionally Friday to Sunday. We have been asked often to add another night, but it was necessary to rent El Prado starting Thursday, as this site is very difficult to rent, even one year before arrival.

About the trip. El Prado is located near Mt. Laguna, in the Cleveland National Forest, about 45 miles east of San Diego. The group campsite is roomy with plenty of adjacent parking and provides privacy from other campers. It is located just east of San Diego, south of Julian, and east of Cuyamaca State Park at an elevation of about 5,500 feet in the mountains that separate the coastal region from the eastern deserts.

As you know, SAGA rents group campsites to provide room and privacy, and collects a fee to cover the costs of the campsite, supplies, food and beverages. These funds are then used to reimburse those that purchase supplies for the trip. The cost for the three night weekend is $120 per person, and two night option is $100 per person.

One way we keep the cost low is by all pitching in and helping with the different tasks in planning and preparing meals and cleaning up after. SAGA campouts organize group meals, and each attendee will be assigned to help with one meal, help cook or other task. If you are a cook and can organize a meal, please volunteer to cook or help cook. We will assign a task to each person, as often as possible one that you volunteer to do on the signup form.
You do not have to be a member of SAGA LA or SAGA San Diego but you must sign the waiver on the signup form to participate. Driving directions to the camp and a list of campers and their assignments will be e-mailed to all participants just prior to the trip.
