Writing is both an art and a discipline—and young writers deserve the space to develop both. Developing Voice is a weekly writing programme for teens aged 14–18, offering a rare opportunity to explore writing in depth: as a creative practice, a critical tool, and a means of shaping one’s voice in the world.
Each session is designed to challenge and support participants with structured guidance, peer discussion, and independent experimentation. With roots in literary theory and creative pedagogy, sessions stretch beyond school curriculums while strengthening essential skills in style, structure, and self-expression.
This week’s session, Unbound Forms, explores how breaking conventional structure can uncover new creative possibilities. From fragmented narration to poetic hybridity, we’ll consider how form and freedom interact to shape voice—and how young writers can develop a style that is both personal and powerful.
This session includes:
– Discussion of literary texts that subvert or transcend traditional forms
– Close reading activities focused on rhythm, space, and creative structure
– Writing exercises to unlock authentic voice and experiment with hybrid forms
– Guided opportunities for sharing and reflecting on work-in-progress
Outcomes:
Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of literary form, enhanced ability to analyse and break structure purposefully, and a growing confidence in their voice as young writers. Sessions build towards publication and may support submissions to the Sahab Collective Journal or other outlets.
