Morning Discussion: Inductive Reasoning

Details
Can I live up to 200 years of age in this lifetime? Can I become the world's most famous rapper? Will I win the million-dollar lottery tomorrow?
Though not impossible, chances are far and slim. For centuries, historians and mathematicians have used reasoning methodologies to solve complex problems. From identifying the origin of artifacts to calculating weather patterns scholars use inductive reasoning to make conclusions based on logical premises.
Sure we can't rule out outliers; luck sometimes works in mysterious ways (take for example William Hung's overnight fame). But inductive reasoning can help us better analyze data and derive a decision rather quickly on probability and statistics. Who wouldn't want to gamble if they are at better odds than the house?
In this discussion, we will learn theory bits on inductive reasoning to improve our ability to analyze and predict future events through personal observations. We will evaluate case studies and learn together on how to make sound decisions.
Some questions we will explore:
• What is inductive reasoning?
• How does inductive reasoning work in an argument?
• Does probability play a big role in decision-making?
• Is inductive reasoning biased?
• Why is inductive reasoning important in critical thinking?
Our session will have a moderator but will remain rather casual and friendly for both newcomers and those passionate about critical thinking. Start your morning with engaging questions, meet new friends, and most fun of all... challenge your knowledge.
