My Viet Story Slam - Live on Zoom!

Details
Hello Everyone,
Our dear friend, Tracey Nguyen, is at it once again! This time, she's hosting a LIVE storytelling event on Zoom. As a "Boat Person" myself, I am particularly keen on listening in on our community's stories of hardship, survival and how we have endured in the new world. During this challenging time, it is nothing better than listening in on stories that we all could relate to and to heal our souls. I am indeed excited to help Tracey in inviting you to her event below:
Join us in celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander month as we showcase Storytellers selected from a nationwide open-call to share their Vietnamese American stories on a live virtual platform. It will be a casual evening to view and celebrate the uniqueness our community brings to the Asian American narrative and participate in a Q&A session.
You might laugh, cry or be in total shock by the stories...either way, you will be entertained.
This will be a live virtual event hosted on Zoom. Please RSVP at https://www.vietnameseboatpeople.org/storyslam for the Zoom link.
This virtual event is co-hosted by Vietnamese Boat People and WHRO and sponsored by Asian Nation of Live Nation, Asian Women Giving Circle and PBS.
The Vietnamese Boat People podcast is stories of hope, survival and resilience. Between 1975 to 1992, almost two million Vietnamese risked their lives to flee oppression and hardship after the Vietnam War, in one of the largest mass exoduses in modern history. Escaping by boat, many found freedom in foreign land, many were captured and brutally punished, and many did not survive the journey. This population of people are known as the ‘Vietnamese Boat People' and these are their stories.
WHRO, Eastern Virginia’s regional NPR and PBS station, as part of a month long initiative to chronicle the contributions and challenges of Asian Americans. WHRO will also share clips from the PBS documentary Asian Americans, focusing on the Vietnamese-American experience, for viewing during and after the event. Asian Americans is a five-hour film series that delivers a bold, fresh perspective on a history that matters today, more than ever. As America becomes more diverse, and more divided while facing unimaginable challenges, how do we move forward together? Told through intimate personal stories, the series will cast a new lens on U.S. history and the ongoing role that Asian Americans have played.
Major funding for ASIAN AMERICANS is provided by Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB); Public Broadcasting Service (PBS); Wallace H. Coulter Foundation; Ford Foundation/JustFilms; National Endowment for the Humanities; The Freeman Foundation; The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations; Carnegie Corporation of New York; Kay Family Foundation; Long Family Foundation; Spring Wang; and California Humanities.
