What we’re about

This group is for people who want to go sailing in North Carolina mostly intracoastal waterways (Neuse, Palmico, etc.) and on occasion, when conditions allow, to poke out into the North Atlantic. I have what my daughter and wife have called a guy's boat. That means I don't care about "bright" work varnishing or matching berth cushion covers. I care about the mechanical functionality of the boat and its systems. My boat is NOT fancy. She is a 1987 Pearson 33-2. She is a masthead sloop. The main has two reefing points. She has a furling 135% genoa. She also has an gennaker that can be flown when wind is scarce. She is the shoal draft model and draws only 3.6 feet. I like to go on cruises that last 2-3 nights. My wife likes to go on a few cruises per year, but does not want to go on as many trips as I would. Also, she does not like so-called roughing it. My next cruise is going to be a Blackbeard Sailing Club cruise to the Cape Lookout bight. I have two buddies who are coming along. I am looking for 1 to 2 more sailors. I am self employed. Most of my buddies don't have flexible schedules. I need crew. We would depart Durham from my home between 1800 and 1900 on Thursday, July 31, 2025 driving in my Ford Expedition. 407 Oakwood Ave, Durham. We would overnight aboard her majesty's ship. We would then join the Blackbeard fleet which is departing at 0900 on Friday, August 1. The fleet will proceed to the bight via Adams Creek. The fleet will stay on Anchor for two nights. We would return Sunday. I am NOT a captain for hire. I purchase all the vehicle fuel for the drive there and back and all diesel fuel for the sailboat. The crew generally splits groceries and won't let me pay anything. I stopped drinking in 2011 so I don't require expensive beer. Other guys will drink beer onboard and that is fine with me. I don't want folks getting sloshed, because that is dangerous. Ken Gasch 919-475-8866
