Don Robinson State Park, Walk and Talk

Details

Exactly how it sounds... Let's go for a Walk (Hike) at Don Robinson State Park. Those that feel inclined can hang out after to chat and take in the views.

DR is becoming more and more popular and is commonly listed as one of the more natural and scenic parks in MO.

Growing up in the area and formerly serving as a Fire Fighter, I've been blessed to explore DR countless times. Whether this will be your first-time exploring DR or your hundredth, DR is full of surprises and a great time any time of year. If this is your first-time, please dress appropriately. This is a HIKE. Leading up to the red hiking trail is a paved trail. This is temporary and only serves to lead into the main hiking trail itself. Dress appropriately for a true hiking experience, based on your skill levels, and based on the weather (time of year).

Please message me if you have any questions regarding to what to wear or what to experience. I've guided a few Meetup hikes on DR. I'll ask for a volunteer to please stay at the rear of our group to ensure we don't have stragglers. The plan will be to hike the Sandstone Canyon loop (Sandstone Canyon Trail: 3,690 Reviews, Map - Missouri | AllTrails) 4 mile loop with an estimated 1hr 42min completion time. We'll remain on the main trail itself but may venture off short distances to see some hidden DR gems.

I carry some emergency kit with me but will not be responsible for everyone. Again, please plan appropriately to go for a hike in the woods with unpaved trails. Know your levels and what you are comfortable with. Safety is a number one priority with FUN being a very close second. :) Again, any questions please ask me directly.

Dogs are welcome at DR, but I ask that you don't bring your dog if this is your first time at DR. Also, some members may not be comfortable around dogs. We can plan a separate hike designed for dog lovers in particular.

Following the hike DR has an outlook with limited benches and chairs. (First come First Serve). The gates close to the park 30 minutes after sunset. Those that feel inclined will be welcome to hang out and chat, take in the views as the sun comes down over the valley. If we're blessed, we may even see some color changes starting to occur in the trees. Message me if you're interested in going to a local Mexican restaurant following the hike!

P.S. I'll keep an eye on the weather. Short of severe weather we will still plan on hiking. Meaning we will dress appropriately and still hike if there is relatively light rain in the forecast. There is one entrance/road in an and out DR. Sometimes gps will send individuals to another local park. Please verify you know where the park is prior to departing. Cell phone is limited in areas at DR, and I will not be able to guide you to the entrance if you become lost enroute.
