A Ukrainian Symphony by Tchaikovsky ... and much, much more. Free!
Details
This free concert promises to be a very special program from the Town & Country Symphony Orchestra (TCSO). The concert is once again at The Principia school on Clayton Road in Town and Country.
This concert is free and no tickets are required. However, it's important that your RSVP for the concert and also indicate with your RSVP whether you will join us for dinner afterward.
After the concert those interested can join the group and members of the orchestra, including David Ackerman (president of the TCSO and bassist), at Mike Duffy's for conversation and a bite. The composer of a new piece that will be played, Stephanie Berg, will also join us for dinner after the concert.
The orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s challenging Second Symphony. This famous piece (often referred to as The Little Russian) is actually a symphony written based on Ukrainian folk themes, and composed while in a city to which Tchaikovsky had a deep personal connection in Ukraine.
Also featured in this concert are two violin solos ... two dramatically different violin concerti performed by two Rising Talents medalists: Jean Park playing the rhapsodic finale from Henryk Wieniawski’s second violin concerto, and Asher Koh playing the darkly beautiful allegro from Prokofiev’s second.
And a special treat to round out the program will be a TCSO premiere from award winning St. Louis composer Stephanie Berg: Ravish and Mayhem. Berg's work has been featured by ensembles ranging from the St. Louis Symphony to New York’s Alarm Will Sound. And this new music is very exciting and a treat to hear. Adding to that treat, Stephanie Berg will attend the concert and we will have an opportunity to meet her.
The Town & Country Orchestra will reserve seats for us to sit together. It's important that you RSVP and that you keep your RSVP up to date.
I recommend that you arrive early, before 2:00, for closest parking in the free lots on campus. Meet at our reserved seats and enjoy some social time before the concert starts at 2:30
