Details

David Robertson, beloved Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra from 2005 to 2018, makes a triumphant return to the refurbished Powell Hall. Performing with him, in addition to the full orchestra, will be Orli Shaham, world renowned classical pianist (and David Robertson's wife).

This Friday morning 'Coffee Concert' at Powell will be the very first time either have taken the stage in St. Louis since his departure from the orchestra. It will be special to witness this return of a St. Louis favorite (and there's more to their St. Louis connection ...read below).

TICKET DETAILS
The SLSO is once again extending a special offer to our Symphony Meetup with discounted tickets for our group seating together and additional savings of no ticketing fees. The orchestra has set aside 25 seats for this low price of $29.

HOW TO ORDER DISCOUNTED SEATS WITH OUR GROUP...

  • Go to www.slso.org. Sign in if you have an account.
  • Go to "Get Tickets," then "Event Calendar"
  • Put the date in for the event: March 6
  • Enter promo code STLMEETUP in the box on upper right portion of screen, hit submit
  • Once it shows the code is being applied, go to "Get Tickets Now"
  • Click on the Orchestra section of the hall in the schematic - it is the only one you can access with this code in place
  • This will open a seat map of the orchestra seating at Powell and it will show, in green, the remaining seats available in our group block of seats.
  • We have 25 seats in our block to start. They will diminish as our group purchases them.
  • Click on your preferred seats and follow the prompts for payment.

If possible, please avoid leaving an 'orphan' single seat in the middle of our block. It is most helpful to me and the orchestra if you act quickly to purchase your seats.

THE PROGRAM
Titled Robertson and Bernstein - American Reflections, Robertson will conduct a compelling program exploring evolution and change through works by four American musical luminaries.

  1. Robertson’s own piano concerto, written for and performed by Orli Shaham, explores themes of language and love.
  2. Steven Mackey’s Turn the Key expresses the joys of transformation
  3. Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Something for the Dark is a meditation on renewal
  4. Leonard Bernstein’s Second Symphony features a solo piano voice representing the composer’s own introspective journey.

BEFORE THE MUSIC
There is a pre-concert talk scheduled at 9:30 in the performance hall. There will be complimentary coffee and donuts. Let's meet up at our seats prior to the pre-concert talk. There will be a break to enjoy refreshments and social time together before the performance starts at 10:30.

This is our first Meetup for a weekday morning Coffee Concert with the SLSO. Your early response to this special offer will be helpful to me and the orchestra team working with us for future planning.

A little about David Robertson and Orli Shaham in St. Louis...
Both were already towering figures in the classical music world when they were both scheduled to make their first appearances in a concert with the St. Louis Symphony in 1999. They met for the first time in a pre-concert conductor-soloist meeting at Powell. They were smitten. They married 4 years later and Robertson was named Music Director of the SLSO soon after. They lived in St. Louis and had a family here until his departure from the orchestra in 2018. During his 13-year tenure, Robertson solidified the SLSO's standing as one of the nation’s most enduring and innovative orchestras.
