The Light in the Piazza is a 2005 Tony-winning Broadway musical by Adam Guettel that operates in the space between musical theater and opera, frequently produced by opera companies due to its complex, romantic score and classically styled vocal requirements. It blends theatrical storytelling with a lush, heavily orchestrated sound, demanding opera-level singers for its mature roles. A contemporary drama about sweet romance. Written and sung in English. The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performs the demanding score live.

Once again this year (based on our enthusistic response last season), Opera Theater of St. Louis is offering generously discounted seating for our group to sit together for this performance. In addition, OTSL will be setting aside space for our group to gather and picnic in one of the reserved tents in the beautiful gardens in front of the theater. We are welcomed to picnic there (as most do before the show), and we can bring our own picnic foods or you can order a lovely picnic meal in advance to be ready for you. Everyone who purchases a ticket with our Symphony Meetup discount will also receive a free cocktail or other beverage. And, prior to the performance, a representative of OTSL will speak with us at our tent to give some insights into things to watch and listen for in the performance.

To start, there are 20 seats set aside for our group for both operas (Pirates and Piazza) on different dates. The available seats will disappear from the ticketing map as we purchase them. OTHER THINGS TO KNOW
There is free parking aound the Loretto Hilton Center at Webster University. And there is free garage parking nearby on campus. I recommend it.

You can also bring your own food & drink picnic. Take outs from BreadCo., for example, are an especially good option as you can simply dispose of everything after you've eaten a nice meal.
There is no dress code. And it may be quite warm. Lots of folks dress like they are attending a summer wedding. But we will see everything. Dress as comfortably as you like.
