Alton Symphony Orchestra - Beethoven, Mendelssohn and fun dinner before!
Details
Join us for this musical adventure and a beautiful day.
The Alton Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is a serious and full symphonic orchestra featuring 45 pieces. This orchestra started performing in 1945 and has sustained a continuous high level of performance and leadership.*
The ASO performs in the beautiful theater in the Hatheway Cultural Center on the campus of Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois. The lovely campus is 40 minutes from I-270 and I-64. There is free parking on campus by the theater.
Tickets to this concert are only $10. We will have seats together for those that RSVP. You can buy tickets in advance at this web page: https://www.altonsymphonyorchestra.org/concerts. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Adding to our sense of adventure... for those interested, we will journey for dinner up the Mississippi River Road to Grafton, Illinois. There we will dine at the recently reopened and legendary Fin Inn Again. Known for it's iconic fish tanks and seafood, steaks, and local favorites, it is renovated and features a wide and reasonable menu.
The forecasted weather is quite nice and would lend itself for a beautiful and colorful drive along the river to and from dinner. We have a dinner reservation at 4:00 that will allow for the half hour drive to the concert after dinner. I hope you'll join Rhonda and me there. I'll be celebrating my 74th birthday.
The Alton Symphony positions this as a concert of reflection, endurance, and resolution. This program consists of Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture”, Colridge-Taylor’s “Bamboula (Rhapsodic Dance)”, Fauré’s “Pavane, Op. 50”, and Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 3 (Scottish) as the title piece. All of this is serious music performed by a serious group of orchestral musicians led by Maestro Shane Williams.
Please join us for this adventurous day! Let me know if you have any questions.
*In addition to the high level performing Alton Symphony Orchestra, the organization also has a sophisticated programming, training and outreach with a separate Alton Youth Symphony as well as the separate Riverbend Community Orchestra that allows more musicians of all ages to play and perform together. These are different orchestras from the ASO that we we will see and hear.
