Latin Sounds concert and Kemper Museum exhibit tour

FREE Friday noontime concert and special guided tour of the related Buenos Aires exhibit for our group at the Kemper Art Museum on the campus of Washington University.

LUNCH & MEET
We can meet anytime after 11:00am in the nice museum coffee shop for lite lunch fare and conversation. Music starts at noon. The Museum admission and the concert and tour are all totally free. You are responsible for your own lunch tab.

THE CONCERT
A Journey Through Latin Sounds is a concert that features different traditional covers and original songs from Latin America. To this end, Esteban Tonio & Emerson Magaña play different Latin genres and instruments. Some of the Latin rhythms that this concert covers are cumbia, huaynos, Cuban son, bailecitos, guajira, and rumba. Additionally, different instruments are played in this concert, such as Charango, Colombian Tiple, and Quena.

THE MUSEUM EXHIBIT TOUR
Buenos Aires Modern, 1935–1950 explores Argentina’s capital as a vibrant creative laboratory where artists forged new visual languages in response to the city’s hybrid population, rapidly modernizing infrastructure, and complex political terrain. The exhibition highlights the activities of a dynamic community of creative practitioners—visual artists, architects, graphic designers, dancers, and poets—revealing how exile, displacement, and cultural exchange transformed the social landscape of Argentina during the early twentieth century. Anchored in the art of Grete Stern, Horacio Coppola, and their social circle, the exhibition traces how modernism was not merely adopted but actively transformed in Buenos Aires. PARKING
Since it is a school day, there is paid parking in the underground garages on campus near the Kemper Museum. This 'secret parking tip' was offered to us: "sometimes the signs as you enter the garage underneath the Kemper say 'FULL' - but often the garage is not actually full and you can still find parking."
It appears that it will cost $5 or less to park in the underground garage near the Kemper Museum (which is called the East End Garage). Here is a link to all the on campus parking info for visitors including a map. I strongly suggest you check the East End Garage first. There is no free visitors parking except on surrounding streets.
